Elegant Aluminia dinnerware in the “Sonja” pattern, which was manufactured between 1937 and 1966. I seem to recall someone saying these may have been designed by Nils Thorsson, but I’ve no idea if that might be true. Would appreciate if someone could say if they were or were not.
It’s rather difficult to find this dinnerware, especially outside of Europe. There are 11 pieces consisting of four 9.75″ dinner plates, four 6″ bread plates and three 5.25″ saucers. These plates are a beautiful light blue-grey in color with white rims. Most are ink marked on the back with the Aluminia symbol and “Denmark Sonja”. By the dating system found online, several of the plates date to 1938. Several are also marked in-mold with stamps that we were unable to decipher – they look like a capital “K” in a square, with other letters or numbers surrounding it.
No visible breaks or cracks, but a few condition issues. Several plates have tiny fleabites and all have significant crazing. However, this would be a good chance to pick up a few pieces if you have a set with missing items.
