Arabia Containers
Tagged with: arabiaceramicscontainerfinlandscandinavia

Simple but beautiful Arabia of Finland stacking covered containers or jars. We think these may have been intended for leftovers but aren’t certain. The containers stack on top of each other and are identical, both with heavy lids. We suspect they date to sometime in the 1960s.

We think that these particular Arabia containers may be somewhat rare – certainly it’s been difficult to find them online. If you’re an Arabia collector and know anything about them, we’d appreciate it if you could drop us a note. There hasn’t been much information in our research – the closest we found was a reference in MOMA’s online collection of “Covered Nesting Storage Bowls”. We also found one auction listing for a similar, but smaller yellow covered jar.

Each container measures about 2.75 inches tall including the lid and about 6 inches in diameter. They’re in excellent condition with just a few pops to the glaze as is very common with Arabia items from this era. Two tiny craze marks on the lid of the white container where the glaze had pooled a bit. Marked on the bottom with the Arabia symbol and “Made in Finland 10-62″ (yellow one says “3-9″). We aren’t certain if these refer to a shape or year.
