Descoware Autumn Saucepot - $30.00

Lovely white Descoware saucepot with the “Autumn Leaves” design. As you know, Descoware was Julia Child’s favorite enamelware, and the company was the forerunner of the famous Le Creuset company. The vintage cast iron ware comes in many colors, but this white enamel with red orange and green leaf decals is somewhat harder to find. Great graphics on this saucepot, and would look great in a vintage kitchen.

The saucepot has a few condition and wear issues. Most notable is the bottom heat ring which appears to be a bit worn and has either rust or carbon deposits. There are some metal marks and scratches to the body and some fleabites to the rim. The base of the handle appears to have a chip where the metal shows through, but we’re unsure because it almost looks like its been ground down like that.

The lid appears to be in better shape, with just two minor fleabites on the bottom side of the rim. There is a scratch near one of the leaf patterns on the lid, but it’s not very visible. The inner white enamel is in good condition but has carbon deposit staining and that crackled look on the bottom (this is not crazing from what we’ve read) as do nearly all Descoware items of this age. We don’t think the condition issues affect its usage in the kitchen or as a purely decorative piece. Still, we’ve reduced the price a bit because of the condition.

Saucepot measures 7 3/8″ in diameter and 11 1/2″ long including the handle. It’s about 3 inches tall with the lid on. Marked on the bottom with both an inkstamp and imprint into the cast iron: “89-A 18 K – Descoware Made in Belgium – FE Belgium”.
