Wonderful, iconic shaker designed by Eva Zeisel for Redwing. This is the famous Town & Country line in the rust color. You’ll find these biomorphic shakers featured prominently in any retrospective or book on Eva Zeisel. You might already be familiar with Zeisel and not even know it – Crate and Barrel re-introduced one of her lines for their own dinnerware.
Note that you’ll see many modern and vintage copies of this shape (most notably Vernon Kilns’ San Marino shape shakers), but this is the original Zeisel design. They’re informally known as the “Shmoo” shakers because of the resemblance to Al Capp’s popular Lil’ Abner character.
This difficult to find shaker is suitable for use in your kitchen or for decoration in a mid century modern setting. It measures about 4 1/2 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches at its widest. They originally came as a pair – we believe this is the larger of the two shakers. In excellent condition with no damage that we can see. Unmarked on bottom with original cork stopper.
