Franciscan Encore Gravy
Tagged with: encorefranciscangladding mcbeangravy

Stylish Franciscan gravy boat by Gladding McBean in the Encore pattern. This shape line was known as Encanto and was introduced around 1950 – it continued in many different patterns for a number of years. The Encore design, which is somewhat reminiscient of Eva Ziesel’s “Fantasy” pattern was introduced in 1956.

Interestingly, the Encore pattern was originally meant to be shown in a musical setting – Gladding promoted it quite heavily and encouraged dealers to promote it along with sheet music and musical notation. The base color is a light gray with white handle, and the pattern is black, white and aqua. The silver looking stripe on the handle is actually platinum trim – most of the Encanto shapes were offered with this trim at one point in time.

We believe this to be a gravy boat, though it could easily be used as a creamer – actually, the creamer in this line looks almost identical, but is just a little smaller. The gravy measures about 3 1/2 inches tall at the spout and is about 7 inches long from spout to handle. In excellent condition, with no damage that we can see. Marked on bottom with “Franciscan China – Made in California U.S.A. Gladding McBean & Co – Encore”. Would be a wonderful addition for a Franciscan collector, or just as a standalone decorative piece.
