Hi everyone – just a little note that we’ve switched out our ongoing sale. Because of the winter season we decided to focus on glittering glassware objects for our feature this time.
And yes, we know we’re a little late on putting this sale up, so we’re going to leave it up throughout January of next year. Selected glass items will be discounted 10-20% (or more), and we’ll also be adding more items over the next month or so.
Also, while the main shop will be open throughout the holidays, we currently have our shopping cart functionality disabled as we need to perform some long-needed maintenance. The cart will be down at least until January 3, 2011. So, if you’d like to purchase an item during this period, please contact us and we can work out the transaction details directlly through email. However, please note that the deadline to guarantee shipping by Xmas day has passed. (The same goes for our Etsy outlet)
OK, we’ll cut this post short so we can get back to fixing up the shop. We might have a few more thrifting posts before the end of the year, and probably a wrapup of our impressions for A La Modern’s first year as a vintage shop.

Lovely themed sale. It’s time for me to write about shops I recommend for the holidays, and yours will certainly be featured.

I have one of those Kosta Snowballs! I had no idea that it was from a particular company. My Mom bought it in the 80″s and it got passed along to me. I remember she was very excited to buy it. I also remember it’s the second one we owned because the first one randomly split in half while we were using it one day! (We think the glass was flawed.)

@monogirl – When I found one Kosta Boda snowball in the box, I got all excited! Because I knew we’d seen more of them – but after comparing the one I’m sure is Kosta with a few of the other ones we have, the quality and shape is a little different! I think there might’ve been other companies (Avon, etc.) who also made, or currently make, the snowballs. I’m not 100% sure, but am trying to research that a little more.

Very eciting day!
Thanks to you posting this picture I knew what Iittala Candlesticks were. I found a set of 3 (3 different heights) in one of my favourite thrift stores this morning. Like yours I think they are newer but in very nice condition and a wonderful price. They can sit next to the Kosta snowballs for a little while. (I ended up with 4 snowballs finally and one wannabe!)
Anyway – I’m giddy with excitment! No one here seems remotely interested, so I’m sharing this with you.
Thanks again for the info!!

@Jane – Awesome! We’ve only found the short Iittala ones so far. I like how they’re sometimes found unmarked – makes it more possible to find them at thrift stores!
