Earlier, we’d grumbled about the apparent lack of interesting items at thrift stores. They just seemed bereft of anything worth picking up.

Well, it’s as if the thrift deities heard our complaining, because the last few forays into thriftland have been extremely fruitful. We now have a backlog of several yummy “thrift-run” pictures to put up, but we’ll start with this one.

This thrifting run produced a combination of wonderful goodies plus some interesting unknown items. Starting off in the back row, that’s a Dansk plastic petal tray designed by Gunnar Cyren but in an interesting clear purple color.

To the left of it is another Dansk item, but this one is a bit mysterious. We’re certain the top and bottom wooden coasters are Dansk from Denmark, but we’re uncertain if the glass vase is from Dansk as well, or if it was just packaged like this at the thrift store. The coasters do fit, but seem a little loose – to date, we haven’t been able to find another item like this online. We’d appreciate it if anyone has any ideas…

In the front, starting on the left is a new-ish Kosta Boda Swedish “Snowball” glass candleholder. This one actually came with the original box and was originally sold from… Macy’s! We’ve found another one of these recently, so we will be offering up the pair in the store very soon.

Next to the snowball is a nice yellow Descoware enamel “Special” skillet. We’ve earlier sold red and blue versions of this skillet, and while this yellow one has significant crazing, we don’t expect it to last too long in our inventory.

The little giraffe next to the skillet is another Dansk silverplate animal paperweight – we love these animals, but this is only the second one we’ve come across after the earlier Elephant we found. They tend to get scooped up rather quickly at thrift stores.

In back of the giraffe is an interesting red enamel bowl that we originally thought might be a Finel item. However, the bottom of this bowl is actually that dark gray that we’ve seen on modern Dansk items. Completely unmarked on bottom, but we believe it to be a vintage item – more photos on this bowl to come later.

Lastly, we have a small vase that was originally an “Unknown” when we picked it up. But we did our research and found out it’s actually a piece of Dutch pottery from a company called De Delftse Pauw. This pottery was actually established circa 1650! But our little vase is likely a modern piece from the 1960s-70s.

OK, we have a ton of other thrift photos to put up still – and we’ll try to get these items up into the store or the Etsy outlet as soon as possible. Remember that we also have our Fall Colors sale still running for a couple more weeks.

Gorgeous finds! I need some of your thrifting luck, my hunt for some household essentials continues anew tomorrow!

I LOVE when that happens. I too sometimes throw out complaints and love it when the thrift magic happens right before my eyes. The problem I overall have at thrift stores is the amount of work searching for items is so much more than estate sales. Yet between sales I get that thrift itch which I’m sure you are familiar with. Great finds. I love that giraffe!

@van – I saw from your thrift post that you had some good luck – excellent! I’m gonna try and hit the stores again this week before the holiday – want to try take advantage of our luck while we have it =)

@selena – Thanks! I was just saying somewhere else, that I need to stop complaining so much – need to be more thankful (seeing as it’s near Thanksgiving as well) when we DO find stuff at the thrift stores. Re: estate sales – I agree about the amount of work versus thrifts, but the estate sales here are super, super competitive. It’s Los Angeles, after all. =) Pound for pound, I find things much more consistently at the thrift. But I’m gonna make an effort next year to try hit more estates.

I need to make more effort to hit up my thrift shops. I amke attempts, but always leave thinking it a waste of time. I have been on an estate sale and Craigslist binge forever. Must make more of an effort to pop in to the old Goodwill more often :)

That glass vase is wonderful, and the long handle on the skillet is great. Wonderful thrift finds! It’s nice to have those fruitful times.

Great find! I have a couple of the Kosta snowball candle holder, I love them.

I recently got two snowballs – at completely different places! I’ve always loved them, I have a third (inherited) somewhere packed away. I think they will look nice at Christmas.

I was interested in the information about Descoware in the listing in the shop. I have a very small Le Creuset saute pan in a simailar yellow – you’ve inspired me to get it out – maybe I’ll put it on display. It’s too small to be useful at our house.

@Amanda – I need to investigate Craigslist more, I’ve never really bought anything off of it, but mainly cause most of the good stuff gets snapped up unbelievably fast here.

@lyssa – Thanks! We’re still trying to figure out what the deal is with the glass vase, and whether the coasters go with the vase. I guess we could always separate ‘em too.

@christine – I’ve seen a few of the snowballs around, but up until now I really wasn’t sure if it was Kosta or a copy (because the ones I saw had no stickers and no boxes). Once I got one, was able to compare it more closely.

@jane – Forgot if I posted it, but we found another snowball the other day! That one didn’t have the box or sticker, but recognized it by comparing to the other one we have. So we have a pair now =)

Far as I know, Le Creuset did come out of Descoware – not sure if it was directly, or if it was a combination of diff companies. But yes, they do look similar. We like both equally, and try pick ‘em up whenever we can. So hard to find in good condition though!

  9. Jane Says:

That’s how I knew what the snowball was as we already had one – it’s so frustrating – I can’t exactly remember where the original is!!!!
