A striking, olive green “lava bubble” enamel-on-steel ashtray. While the pattern of enamel bubbling on the surface of the ashtray is very reminiscient of other Hanova of Pasadena pieces we’ve seen, it doesn’t seem to match the style. But we haven’t seen other Hanova ashtrays, so we can’t make a direct comparison. We’re currently attributing it to Hanova. If anything the pattern is even more elaborate on this one than the other Hanova pieces we have.
Hanova pieces are rarely marked directly on the enamel – they mostly had stickers which were peeled off afterwards. That, and the fact that there’s not a lot of available information about the company, leads to a lot of confusion on identification. We are not sure about this particular ashtray, but we are leaning toward this being from the actual Hanova company.
Ashtray has three notches cut into the metal, with a large circular area of glaze in the center of it. Measures approximately 7.5 inches in diameter. Would be a great decorative piece for a modern home, even if you don’t smoke.
