Hanova Casserole
Tagged with: casseroleenamelhanovametal

A spectacular large Hanova of Pasadena covered casserole or pot. Olive green mottled bubble enamel on steel, likely made in the 60s-70s. Hanova is known for their striking enameled dishes, bowls, planters and candleholders – but we don’t see these larger covered items too frequently. This style of Hanova piece is often labeled Brutalist“, referring to Brutalist Architecture, but this doesn’t seem to be an accurate classification.

We are fairly certain about this piece being from Hanova, though it doesn’t have its original sticker on the bottom. Hanova pieces are rarely marked directly on the enamel – they mostly had stickers which were peeled off afterwards. That, and the fact that there’s not a lot of available information about the company, leads to a lot of confusion on identification.

Wonderful random pattern of olive green bubbles covers the exterior of the lid and base, which is composed of steel. The interior is plain green enamel. Would make a great centerpiece in a mid century modern living room, though you could also cook up a storm for a party with this pot!

In good vintage condition – there is some wear and chipping to the outer enamel. The most significant chip is on the rim, but due to the nature of the bubbled glaze, it doesn’t show up as prominently. Handle has some chipping too and is slightly warped. Interior green enamel is very good with just a tiny bit of wear. Please see all photos.

Measures approximately 11 inches across, 14 inches with the handles. About 6 inches tall.
