A beautiful, modernistic porcelain figurine by Howard Pierce. This is Pierce’s interpretation of the classic Madonna and Child, depicting a robed mother figure holding an infant in her arms. Smooth glaze is a combination of brown and cream colors.
Howard Pierce produced a wide range of porcelain figurines from his studio in Claremont and later in Joshua Tree. He produced mostly figurines of animals, but did make some of people like this one as well. Many of his figurines were actually sold in stores and public buildings in Joshua Tree. This figurine is very slender measuring around 8 inches tall but only about 1 1/2 inches wide. In near perfect condition with no cracks or chips. Marked on bottom with the ink stamp reading “Howard Pierce”.
