An unusual geometric ashtray made by Hyalyn. This was in the Shibui line and was made in the mid 1960s. The ashtray is star shaped and characterized by a rough textured exterior glaze with shiny light brown glaze on the inside. Certainly a conversation piece, even if you don’t smoke!
The ashtray measures about 8 inches across and 2.5 inches tall. It is marked with the usual Hyalyn ink stamp very faintly on the back of the cork attached to the ashtray (many Hyalyn ashtrays and accessories had this cork board attached).
The ashtray does have some condition issues, which is why we’re discounting the price. The main issue is crazing on the inside, one or two lines seem a little deeper than normal crazing – see the second photo. There is also a little roughness and marks on the outside, though we don’t see any major chips. However, we think this would be a great pickup if you’re a Hyalyn or ashtray collector.
