Two (2) fabulous midcentury modern style ashtrays from Italy. We don’t know the manufacturer on this one, but the rough sgraffito style and multicolor decor is similar to some of the Rosenthal Netter or Bitossi pieces we’ve seen. However, as we’ve said before, it can be nearly impossible to conclusively identify vintage Italian ceramics that just have the word “Italy” on them.
In any case, they would look really great as modern home decor. We believe they were individual ashtrays. They have two cigarette holders/handles on each end and the interior is a fantastic splattering of red, purple, yellow and green with incised lines throughout. The exterior is a solid chartreuse colored glaze.
In good vintage condition with no cracks or major damage. Just a few paint flakes to the handles, and one of the ashtrays also has a small chip underneath one handle. However, because of the nature of the design, it’s very difficult to see any damage. Marked on bottom with “Italy PL5/15″.
