La Gardo Tackett Demitasse Set

Colorful set of 5 La Gardo Tackett designed porcelain demitasse cups and saucers. These were designed for Schmid International, probably in the 60s.

Tackett was a very notable modern ceramicist. Most importantly, he was the force behind Architectural Pottery whose wares are associated with the midcentury modernist movement and are highly coveted today. His production design work for Schmid is less well known, but just as beautiful.

We believe these to be demitasse cups and saucers (or perhaps intended for Irish coffee). Five different cup colors - blue, orange, purple, yellow and brown with matching saucers for each.

The saucers are marked with the Tackett/Schmid stamp on the back, but the cups are not marked. Some of them still have original "Japan" stickers attached.

The porcelain cups and saucers are in good vintage shape, except for the yellow demitasse cup which has a bit of wear (see 4th photo). The paint appears to be chipping a bit around the handle and there is some crazing to the side of the cup. The other cups are in fairly good shape. We are discounting this set a bit because of the wear to the yellow cup.

The cups measure about 4 inches tall and 1 3/4 inches inches wide at the top. The saucers are about 3 1/2 inches wide.
