Four (4) stylish La Gardo Tackett designed bowls or saucers in a vibrant orange glaze with green band around the top. These were designed for Schmid International, probably in the 60s. Please note: the glaze on these is shiny – not matte as we have seen some Schmid items.
We actually aren’t certain if these are bowls or saucers – the depression in the middle had led us to believe they might’ve been saucers. But they could easily be used as bowls as they are a little deeper than the typical saucer. Or perhaps you have the matching cups but need these saucers?
Tackett was a very notable modern ceramicist. Most importantly, he was the force behind Architectural Pottery whose wares are associated with the midcentury modernist movement and are highly coveted today. His production design work for Schmid is less well known, but just as beautiful.
These Schmid saucers were actually produced in Japan. Marked on the reverse with “Schmid Porcelain” along with the Tackett signature. Some of the saucers have partial foil stickers as well.
The saucers are in excellent condition with no major damage. Maybe 1-2 minor scuffs to the glaze.
Saucers measure approximately 4 5/8″ wide, 1″ deep, and the indentations are about 2 1/4″ wide.
