Four awesome La Gardo Tackett designed snack plates with cups in a warm yellow glaze. These were designed for Schmid International, probably in the 60s.
Tackett was a very notable modern ceramicist. Most importantly, he was the force behind Architectural Pottery whose wares are associated with the midcentury modernist movement and are highly coveted today. His production design work for Schmid is less well known, but just as beautiful.
We believe these are either luncheon plates or snack sets – they are a mustard yellow color with white on the other side. The plates have an indentation which fits the cups. The glaze is an interesting heavy “matte” type which is different than most Schmid items designed by Tackett. Both the cups and plates are marked on the reverse with the Schmid / Tackett logo stamp.
The plates measure about 8 inches wide and the cups are 3 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches in diameter. In great vintage condition with no cracks or chips. There is a bit of wear on the surface of the plates where the glaze has been scratched off a bit (see the last photo). But otherwise in great shape and would be a great for the Tackett collector. Also, we actually have a matching creamer in this exact pattern.
