Striking handpainted Matthew Adams featuring an eskimo girl. Adams worked for Sascha Brastoff in the 1950s before opening up his own pottery that featured designs similar to those he worked on with Brastoff.
We aren’t certain if these are really called the “Alaska series” (there is a line by Brastoff with identical name), but everyone seems to call them that. The ashtray has a wonderful modern shap and is hand painted with dark green, white, brown and black glaze.
The ashtray does have one condition issue which is a 1/4″ flake or rub to the glaze near the ashtray holder. You can definitely see it, but we feel that it might be painted over. There is also a few other tiny nicks around the rim, but those aren’t as noticeable. Because of the wear, we’re discounting this item. We still it would be a valuable addition to a Matthew Adams collection.
Ashtray measures about 8.75 inches wide.
