Fantastic drip glaze round planter with “fall colors” – brown and white on orange. The planter was made by Frank Moreno Ceramics in California. We call this the 2-Globe planter and it’s the second smallest of 4 different sizes that Moreno produced.
There isn’t too much information on this Southern California potter, who made ceramics from the 1950s to 1980s, but his items are becoming more popular. Most Moreno items are a bit irregular, because they’ve been handthrown or handmade, although he did cast items in his later years. It’s been said that he was more concerned with getting a finished product than having a perfect shape or glaze finish.
This item, like most Moreno Ceramics pieces, has glaze pops and imperfections. There are no major cracks or chips. There is some minimal wear to the glaze and a pinholes where the glaze bubbled. Entire pot has crazing inside and out. Foot has a small chip that does not show at all when bowl is displayed normally. Measures about 5.75 inches in diameter at top, about 8.5 inches in diameter at widest, and about 4.25 inches tall. Marked on bottom with “2 Frank Moreno Ceramics Calif U.S.A.”
NOTE: This is a heavy item that when boxed will weigh over 4 lbs.
