Aile Lee Horse Plate

A fantastic, small studio pottery stoneware plate/bowl by Aile Lee of New Mexico / Las Vegas. Wonderful stylized depiction of a horse in brown glaze on gray-blue background. Hand formed shallow bowl shape, would look great with other California or Southwest modern pottery.

Aile Lee was born in Germany, attended the School for American Craftsmen (1948-50), New Mexico Highlands University (1956-58) and Claremont Graduate School (1958-60) - her stoneware pieces are in private collections and museums. As a side note - she was known as a parrot breeder, which earned her the nickname "Bird Lady of Las Vegas." Plate is marked on reverse with "Aile Lee".

In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. Some pops to glaze, some manufacturing seams and lines on back.

Measures about 6 3/4 inches at widest.
