Barbara Willis Horse

A wonderful yellow crackle glaze horse figurine by Barbara Willis. This is the iconic first figural form that Willis, one of the pioneers of California modern pottery, produced in the 1940s-50s. Stylized hollow body horse figure with her signature combination of textured unglazed clay and thick crackle glaze. The unglazed portions look a little more red in the photos. These were meant to be go-alongs with her very popular floral ware and are pictured in Jack Chipmans book on Barbara Willis on page 19. Unmarked as all these horses were.

In good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or damage. Some pops, holes, roughness in glazing and clay from manufacturing - these were hand finished items so there are lots of variations in the clay and glaze. Bottoms of feet have dirt and a small amount of wear.

Measures about 4 3/4 inches tall, 3 3/4 inches long, 2 inches wide.
