Bauer Pottery Matt Carlton Vase

A monumental rare hand made Bauer Pottery Matt Carlton "Hands on Hips" twisted handle 16 inch tall vase. This is Carlton's well-known "signature" form in Chinese Yellow glaze, with a flared shape, indented rings periodically on the sides and applied twisted handles. Probably made in the 1930s-40s, these came in various different heights - ours is on the larger end at 16 inches. Shown in Jack Chipman's Bauer book on page 58. Would look great displayed with other Matt Carlton or Bauer pieces. Unmarked on bottom.

In good vintage condition, with no cracks, chips or damage. There are manufacturing stray marks in the glaze, a few blue/green dots, some wear to the unglazed bottom. The handles are securely attached, there are some manufacturing lines and what appears to be glaze fissures where the handles are attached - believe these to be all manufacturing (would avoid picking up the vase by the handles, however). There is some white paint in the crevices - originally this entire piece(!) was painted over with white and we spent three days removing all the paint. So there may be stray white paint marks here and there, especially in crevices, but we've removed just about all of it. Overall, this piece is in great vintage condition.

Measures about 16" tall, 7 1/2" wide top, 9" at widest near handles. Boxed this will weigh between 15-20 pounds.
