A wonderful and rare Bitossi Italian Cinese series Buddha sculptural bust designed by Aldo Londi and distributed by Rosenthal Netter. The Cinese (Chinese) range of items were inspired by Chinese bronzes and feature a blue and green mottled glaze along with bronze colored laced rough texturing. The head rests on a rectangular base with bronze metallic color glaze and spiral accent design. This spectacular piece could be a great focal point in a collection of mid century Bitossi ceramics. Marked on the interior of base with original Rosenthal Netter sticker, and marked with numbers 52/12 Italy.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks or major damage. There are quite a few shallow chips and flakes to the glaze, most noticeable is a glaze flake to the lip and flaking on the edges of both ears. Numerous flakes to the bumps on the head. A good amount of grime and dirt in the crevices, have removed some of it and more will come off with cleaning. There are a few areas where the previous owner attempted to "fix" some of the flakes with paint or building them up - believe this could be removed. This piece could be taken to a conservator if desired to fix the flakes and other issues, but structurally it is fine for display as is.
Measures about 11 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" widest.
