Fantastic set of two Italian fused glass ashtrays produced by Bitossi and likely distributed through Raymor. This somewhat uncommon line is known as Fritte Colorate, and features a multicolor glass checkerboard square design on speckled brown glazed heavy clay. Unsure if this was an Aldo Londi design but seems likely. Eye-catching mid century modern design objects, the glass contains inclusions, crackling and large pops. The glass colors include shades of red, green, blue, yellow, purple, white, black. Ashtrays are marked on the bottom with the word Italy and the numbers 900 and 1004A.
In good vintage condition with no cracks or chips. Very large pops to glass, purposeful crackling. Moderate crazing to pottery surface.
Large ashtray measures about 8 inches long 5 1/2 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Small ashtray measures about 3 3/4 inches square and 1 1/4 inches tall.
