A hard-to-find, adorable large Bitossi Italian cat sculpture designed by Aldo Londi. Great looking orange glaze with tan brown decoration on the side and around neck - believe the pattern is called "Siliglia Colorate". Construction is heavy rough brown clay, typical of Bitossi pieces. We don't see this larger cat shape much, and it's usually in the standard Rimini blu color. Likely dates to the 1960s. Would be a great pickup for the serious Bitossi collector. Marked on the bottom with what looks like 823 Italy.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks, chips or damage. There is a bit of flaking to both ear tips, but not that bad - see the last photo. A small nick on the petal in the floral design. These are hand finished pieces so there are pops, lines and roughness to the glaze which is very characteristic of Bitossi items. Some crazing, mostly where there is brown glaze. Some dust and dirt in the crevices.
Measures about 10 3/4" tallest, 6 1/2" long, 4" deep.
