A rare Bitossi Italian quail bird with the Scavo decor, and an unusual applied forked tail. Light brown/pink clay construction with lacy bubbled matte glaze, hints of white and brown glaze, and incised feather lines on body. We haven't yet seen this form before with the added tail. Unmarked on bottom.
In good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or damage. There might be 1 or 2 small flakes off the very end of tail points. Some pops, holes, lines in clay from firing and manufacturing, roughness in glazing and clay from manufacturing - these were hand finished items so there are lots of variations in the clay and glaze. Top of bird actually has a long construction seam that you can see through in places. Unmarked on bottom.
Measures about 7 1/2 inches to top of head, 7 inches long, 5 1/2 inches wide.
