Dora De Larios Sculpture

A fantastic and stunning large studio pottery mythological beast sculpture by Dora De Larios. De Larios is recognized as one of the most important artists in clay in the U.S., with works in museums and galleries around the world, as well as sculptures and installations in various Southern California locations and abroad. Would be a wonderful addition to a collection of mid century Mexican pottery. Please see her website for more background information, believe she is still creating works today.

This is a hand formed depiction of a dog, lion or other mythological creature, with cut out eyes and teeth, textured body, and attached tail and legs. Brown and beige glazed stoneware construction. Age of piece is unknown, guessing 1960s-70s. Signed very faintly on bottom "De Larios" and difficult to take a photo of. However, the style is pretty unmistakable and this particular animal was acquired at a location that had four other signed De Larios pieces.

In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. Some large pops to glaze, tape remnants on bottom of feet.

Measures about 9 1/2" by 8" wide, 11 1/2" tall.
