A fabulous Imogen Stuart cast iron or steel small religious themed wall art plaque. This piece is likely based on "The Irish Good Shepherd", we've seen a 1970s version in wood on her website that looks different, and have also seen a wax rubbing of one that matches this one. She was known to have made limited edition castings in bronze and steel or cast iron - but we haven't been able to figure out what type of edition this was and where it was released. Marked in the casting on the reverse with "IMO GEN" that has been highlighted with black marker, and a date of 1980 also in marker.
Imogen Stuart is one of the best known sculptors in Ireland, she was born 1927 in Germany but has lived and worked in Ireland since 1949. Her large scale works in metal, stone, wood and clay are all around Ireland in churches, museums and other places. Elected Saoi (wise one) by Aosdana, also a professor at RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy). For more information, please see her website.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips or breaks. There is some light dirt and possibly rust in a few areas, a few pitting errors in the casting.
Measures about 7 1/2" long, 4" wide.
