A fabulous Greek modernist ceramic tile in wooden frame designed by Panos Valsamakis. Design features stylized mother and child depiction in white, beige and pink smooth glaze colors, surrounded by matte glaze red and black. This small but wonderful tile is set in a wooden frame, held in by nails, and with a hanging hook at top. Probably 1950s-60s production. There is a barely visible Valsamakis mark in the lower right corner of tile.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. Some crazing in the smoother parts of tile, some dirt, fibers and dust. Frame has wear. Glazing imperfections, especially in the matte portions. Bit of a nick on bottom edge of tile, may have been done to get the tile in.
Measures about 8 3/4" long, 4 3/4" wide. Tile itself is about 8" by 4".
