A fabulous set of two blue Murano Italian glass bird bookends. Designed by Luciano Gaspari for Salviati glassworks, this beautiful pair of solid glass objects would look great together on the mantle or bookcase - or pose them separately as glass works of art. Handcrafted light aqua blue birds are a little different in size, with small eyes and sculpted open mouths. The main glass bodies are attached to darker cobalt blue/purple tails that form the bookend stops. Unmarked on the bottom, probably had stickers, but there are several of these online attributed to Gaspari.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. A bit of scratching to bottom and the bottom edge has some tiny nicks likely from the polishing procedure. There are a few very light marks, scratches and scuffs on the body of the pieces. The larger bird has one scratch that is a bit longer on the body, but overall seem to be in very good shape.
Measures about 6 1/2 inches tall each, 4 1/2 inches wide and 5 inches long. Extremely heavy glass, full weight boxed will be almost 10 pounds.
