Sascha Brastoff Bowl

A stunning green, white and goldleaf midcentury modern bowl by Sascha Brastoff. Sascha Brastoff was one of the more famous and successful designers from California who produced a myriad of different types of ceramics, enamels, sculpture, jewelry fine arts and other home decor in the 1950s-1970s. More information on Brastoff is on the Potteries of California website.

This bowl is from his extremely desirable "Star Steed" line. We thought this was an ashtray at first, but now believe it to be a small bowl. Meticulously handpainted, but remember that most were not painted by Brastoff himself. Those signed with “Sascha B” were done by other decorators. (A full signature is often indication that he decorated the item himself – however, the rooster stamp on the back does not count as a signature.) The interior of the bowl has a Sascha B signature in gold leaf. The back of the bowl has the familiar gold rooster stamp along with the letters “C2".

It’s in great condition, with no major damage except for a few minor scratches to the underside of the handles.

Bowl measures about 7 inches across, 5 1/2 inches wide and 2 inches tall.
