Wonderful Swedish lady candleholder attributed to Urusla Printz for Gustavsberg. We’d originally thought this was by Stig Lindberg, but now believe it to be by Printz. It was sold together with a “man” candleholder as well which had similar composition.
Handpainted figurine has a small taper hole about 3/8″ wide within the arms. Colors include teal, yellow, black, red, blue and yellow on a reddish clay. In great condition with no major damage, but with moderate crazing throughout. Mark on bottom is in blue ink and includes the hand stamp and the word “SWEDEN”, as well as a smaller umbrella mark. We have seen this umbrella mark before on other Gustavsberg pieces, and believe it may be a decorator’s mark.
Measures about 5 1/2″ tall.
