Ikora Candy Dish
Tagged with: ikorametalwmf

Beautiful art deco style silverplate candy dish by the German company WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik). The company’s history dates as far back as to the 1880s and they continued producing silver and other metal ware up until at least the 1960s.

This WMF candy dish has the special “Ikora” finish production line which was first introduced in the 1920s. It involved layers of different coatings and decorative finishing techniques. The metal is silverplated, and while it is mass-produced it has a hand-crafted look to it. This particular one has a swirled type of finish that almost makes it look like water reflections on the surface. The tapered handle is elegantly attached directly to the top side of the bowl.

It measures about 5 1/2″ in diameter and 4 1/2″ tall at the handle. Marked on the bottom with the WMF mark as well as an WMF-Ikora sticker with the numbers 770 6332. In great used condition, suitable for deocration or display. Minimal nicks and surface scratches, though the silver plate does have a few dots of tarnish in places that may be cleanable.
