Fabulous rare stylized figural monk ceramic planter designed by Alvino Bagni with Sea Garden glaze treatment. Produced in the 1960s for Raymor, features a serene depiction of a monk or boy with hands clasped with the characteristic blue, green and brown mottled sea garden glaze. This is a hollow planter form with hole at the top of head (we have also seen this piece as a figurine without the top hole) and the hands have a small indentation that might be used for incense sticks. Would look great in the garden or displayed with other Italian ceramics. Unmarked.
In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. Some manufacturing pops and glaze drips here and there. There is a small flake to the nose area, see the last photo. The foot area has two firing cracks from manufacturing that do not affect the stability of the piece.
Measures about 13 1/2" tallest, 6" widest, opening is 2 3/4" wide.
