A fabulous, rare set of two large Bitossi square planters or vases with multicolor glaze squares or windows. We have only seen this pattern for Bitossi a few times, sometimes designated as "Quadrato", and imported by Raymor. It appears that this line has been re-created in very limited quantities under the direction of Aldo Londi, but we believe that our pieces are originals dating 1960s-70s. The pattern consists of orange, yellow, light green and avocado green glazed squares on a matte black earthenware ceramic cube box. Interior is glazed avocado green, and bottom is glazed yellow with brown clay edge visible. Would recommend these for the advanced Bitossi collector, they would look great displayed with other Italian ceramics or with plants in them. Marked as "7525 Italy" on the bottom, no stickers.
In good vintage condition with no cracks or damage. A few of the corners and edges have small chips or flakes to the glaze. There are manufacturing divots, splatters, pops to glaze - all consistent with these hand finished items. Some dust and dirt here and there. Some crazing within the glaze in the squares. Overall these are in great usable condition.
Measures about 6 1/2" tall, 6 5/8" wide each way. These are very heavy and so may be shipped separately for safety.
