A fantastic and rare pair of papier mache sculptural canisters or containers created by Gemma Taccogna. Whimsical folk pieces featuring two stylized women with folded hands and colorful flower decor, one in red and the other in blue. Have not seen others like these and unsure of the intended use, they are very tall canisters or containers - as many of her pieces were originally dressing room items these could've perhaps been used as receptacles for hairspray cans or maybe for long matchsticks. Marked on bottom of both with Gemma Taccogna Mexico.
In fair vintage condition, but with some significant wear including chips, flaking, roughness. There is more chipping and loss on the bottom edges and the edges where the canister bottom and tops connect. See photos. Faces have crazing lines or crackling.
Measures about 10" tall, 3 1/4" wide.
