Wonderful 1960s ERA Industries style hand hooked cotton and fiber wall hanging or rug, made in Japan. This great textile piece is very similar in style to the Evelyn Ackerman tapestries, but we don't have much information on its origins. It has a "bird" mark in the lower left hand corner (see last photo) that we've seen once or twice before. Does not have the loops at top for hanging - this piece originally had some metal clips attached to top, but we removed them b/c they weren't secure.
Features a multi-colored fruit plant in pot, dual-sided fabric, with a tag on back. Tag reads: 'Hand Hooked Rug, Wall Hanging Type. Pot w/ Fruit Growing. 65% Cotton 35% Unidentified Textile Fiber. Size 22 1/2" by 52". RN 30226 Made in Japan'. There is also a partial tag for the "Akron" store, which was a chain here in SoCal.
In good vintage condition, with some overall wear consistent with age. Some snags here and there, and some dirt and dust, maybe 1 or 2 small stains. Also believe that it is slightly sun-faded on front, when compared to the reverse which is a little more vibrant in color - see the first two photos to compare. Not sure if this piece could be cleaned, but we didn't want to take a chance. Tag has quite a bit of wear.
Measures about 22 1/2" by 52". Will be shipped rolled up or folded.
