Luciano Gaspari Glass Elephant

A fantastic Italian glass elephant paperweight by Luciano Gaspari for Salviati. Handblown "Sommerso" style glass construction with brilliant blue color against clear glass, a very heavy glass figurine. Would be a show-stopper of a piece to be displayed in a midcentury modern setting. Reminded us of the Dresdner "Drumbo" elephant plastic banks (often attributed to Luigi Colani) that were popular in the 1960s. We are curious as to the origins of the piece - most sites say it was designed by Gaspari for the Salviati company in Venice but we haven't confirmed that. Unmarked as far as we can tell.

In good vintage condition, with no cracks or chips. Some light scratching and scuffs on bottom. Overall just very light wear, an occasional scratch, one longer scratch near the top but still very light and difficult to see. Some dirt and dust. The bottom foot area has two small flakes, but those are likely manufacturing from polishing.

Measures about 6 3/4" tall, 7 1/2" long, 3 1/2" widest. Extremely heavy, will be about 10 pounds boxed.
